David Green Eyewear Unveils Blue-Light and Compact Reading Ranges for Optometrist ChannelCape Town-based brand pitches two reader collections, The Traveller and Off-U-Go, as clear-lens options for patients moving between print and screens

Cape Town-based David Green Eyewear has put its readers offering front and centre, promoting two ranges, The Traveller and Off-U-Go, through selected optometrists worldwide.
The brand, which describes its eyewear as made with real natural materials and designed in Cape Town, is positioning the ranges as distinct options for different patient needs: one built for portability, the other for style and variety.

The Traveller: compact and travel-ready

The Traveller is pitched as the practical option, designed to slip into a bag, jacket or carry-on. It has an ultra-slim 20 mm folded profile and comes with a compact protective case. The company says it has not compromised on build, with optical-standard metal hinges.
The range currently features the Journey frame (47-20-140), shown in olive green.

Off-U-Go: more shapes, more colour

Off-U-Go is the brand's more expressive offering, with four shapes in the featured range: James (49-16-140), Christie (47-20-140), Ernest (49-20-140) and Fleming (49-16-140). The company says the frames have a tactile, lightweight finish and also use optical-standard metal hinges.
Three of the four featured frames, James, Christie and Ernest, come with blue-light protection. Fleming is offered as a regular reader, giving practices a non-coated option within the same collection.

A measured approach to blue light

The ranges feature a coating the company says provides 35 per cent blue-light protection. The brand is careful to avoid overstating the benefit, saying its approach is “not fear of blue light” but a more considered everyday lens. It says the coating filters a measured portion of high-energy visible light while staying clear, without the heavy yellow tint associated with many screen lenses.
The company also acknowledges the limits of the product, stating that the coating won’t replace the correct reading strength or regular screen breaks, and describing it as an additional layer for people who split their day between print and pixels.
Strengths run from plano to +3.50. The plano option is notable for practices, as it allows blue-light protection for patients who don’t need a reading prescription. The brand says optometrists can help patients choose the right frame and strength, including plano blue-light lenses where available.

What it means for practices

For practices looking to build out a ready-to-wear category, the ranges offer a clear split between a compact, travel-focused reader and a more fashion-led collection, with a consistent hinge standard across both. The measured tone of the blue-light messaging may also suit practitioners wary of overclaiming in this area, given ongoing debate over the clinical value of blue-light filtering lenses.
David Green Eyewear is available through selected optometrists worldwide and operates a trade portal for professionals.
